Greetings!
So many times, I have heard Fr. Hernandez or Fr. Benetti share these words as part of the Collect (the opening prayer) at daily Mass:
Almighty ever-living God,
who in the abundance of your kindness
surpass the merits and the desires of those who entreat you,
pour out your mercy upon us
to pardon what conscience dreads
and to give what prayer does not dare to ask.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
What a remarkable reflection, and what a reassuring revelation, on the nature of God.
God already knows what faults and failings we are most embarrassed about, most ashamed of, most sorry for. And God is ready to forgive them.
God already knows what we seek most, what we long for and are desperate for, what we deeply and truly desire. And God is ready to grant it to us.
May we go to God in prayer this week, contritely seeking God’s mercy and humbly seeking God’s love, trusting that God’s grace is so abundant that it transcends what we dread to speak and what we dare not share.
Blessings on your week. Go Crusaders!
