Joanne Flynn ’84 – A Leader in the World of Professional Golf

02/01/26

At its annual meeting in December 2025, the New England PGA reached a ground-breaking moment in the organization’s history by announcing Joanne Flynn as its first ever female President. Joanne also made history by becoming the first President to follow in the footsteps of a parent — her father, Bill Flynn — who previously held the same role.

After hearing the news of Joanne’s exciting appointment with the PGA, we had the opportunity to meet with her and to learn a bit more about her background. Joanne grew up with golf, working with her father during her high school and college years at the family-owned golf course of Lakeview in Wenham, MA. While working at Lakeview, Joanne completed her undergraduate work at Lesley University and earned her MBA at Southern New Hampshire University.

In 1995 Joanne became the owner and Director of Golf at Windham Country Club in Windham, New Hampshire. The 18-hole championship course offers a beautiful setting for players of all abilities. Joanne also serves as the Director of Golf at the Far Corner Farm Golf Course in Boxford, a favorite course for many North Shore golfers. As the new President of the New England PGA, Joanne wants to engage more people in the world of golf and to create positive golf experiences for all PGA members.

Joanne is also a board member of the PGA of America REACH New England Foundation. A cornerstone program of the foundation is the PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). This program introduces and teaches golf to Veterans and Active-Duty Military to enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. Led by PGA of America Golf Professionals, the program includes a developmental 6- to 8-week curriculum.

When asked about her favorite memories of Fenwick, Joanne told us, “I so admired the work that both Ralph LeDuc and Sr. Geraldine did for all the students. I always felt everyone valued you, they cared for you, and they knew you.” Reflecting on the skills she learned at Fenwick, Joanne said, “Integrity and the value of friendships. I learned about a sense of community, and a strong desire to help others.” Joanne has carried with her throughout life the desire to help others, as seen by her active volunteer involvement with the Boys and Girls Club of Salem, NH, and the Animal Rescue League in Salem, NH.

In terms of sharing advice for today’s Fenwick students, Joanne offered the following: “Move forward with your life in the way that you have been treated at Fenwick, integrating the positive caring Fenwick experience into all you do.”

Our interview with Joanne closed with a wonderful full circle Fenwick story! One of Joanne’s favorite faculty members at Fenwick was Sr. Geraldine Burns, whom she had as a teacher for several years. Later, after Joanne graduated from Fenwick, Sr. Geraldine became a student in one of Joanne’s golf classes at Lakeview! Joanne told us she truly enjoyed and cherished the reversal of the student/teacher roles.

Thank you, Joanne, for sharing your wonderful story with us, and congratulations on your new role as President of the New England PGA! If you are interested in learning more about the Windham Country Club or the Far Corner Farm Golf Course, please click on the links below:
