Kevin Fini ’11 – A Global Marathoner
09/01/26
Now residing in London, Kevin Fini ’11 was recently on the North Shore visiting with family for the Labor Day holiday weekend. On Kevin’s agenda while back on the North Shore was to run in the traditional Gloucester Around the Cape 25k. When he was ready to register for the iconic road race, he was disappointed to learn that it was no longer in existence. Even though he lives more than 3,000 miles away, Kevin is now on a mission to bring the Around the Cape 25k back to the North Shore!
We recently had the opportunity to meet Kevin for coffee and learn more about his background and plans to bring the 25K back to the area. We learned from Kevin that the Around the Cape 25k was a staple road race on the North Shore, first run in 1933 and was held annually every Labor Day weekend. But back in 2017, the road race was stopped because of other road race competition. “I grew up in Gloucester and always dreamed of the day I’d run in this road race. Even though the race is not officially happening, I have recruited a small group to run the race with me this year on Labor Day weekend. This is just the start of what I hope will be the beginning of bringing back the road race to its full glory,” said Kevin.
Kevin’s love for running all began at Fenwick. During his time at Fenwick, Kevin ran cross country in his sophomore, junior, and senior years with Coach Czarnecki. And during those three years the team was undefeated in all of the Catholic Central League (CCL). Kevin has continued his love for running while living in London. Every day he runs to work, a total of nine miles, and his running route each day brings him over the London Bridge. Kevin is an avid long-distance runner, completing the London Marathon 4 times, and the Hong Kong and Valencia marathons each once.
After graduating from Fenwick, Kevin went on to study at the University of St. Andrews in Scottland, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history. After his graduation from St. Andrews, he moved to London and worked for PWC for 5 years. Then in 2021 Kevin began his current career with MasterCard as a Director of Product Management.
When asked about his favorite class at Fenwick, Kevin told us history. It was his Fenwick classes that steered him to major in history at St. Andrews. And when asked for some words of advice for current Fenwick students, Kevin offered, “Your high school years are about learning to learn. It is important to learn whatever the topic is that is put in front of you, even if you don’t like it, because you will need this skill in college and in your future jobs.”
Thank you, Kevin, for sharing your global story with us. You truly exemplify what being a Crusader is all about. We look forward to cheering you on in future road races. If anyone is interested in helping Kevin with the resurgence of the Around the Cape 25k road race, he asks that you please reach out to him at kpfini@gmail.com.
